Yorkshire arm of The Family Business Network go behind the scenes of 200 year old Keighley steel business

Sue Howorth of The Family Business Network and Mark Sugden, Managing Director of John W. Laycock Ltd will host a one-off insight event at the Keighley premises of John W. Laycock on Thursday 21st March.

Established as a limited business in 1810 by its namesake, John W Laycock can trace its roots back to 1746 with evidence of the Laycock family making nails. They are proud to be one of the longest established family business firms in Keighley and one of the oldest steel service providers registered with the National Association of Steel Service Centres (NASS).

On the day, Managing Director, Mark Sugden will share the compelling history of the business including the story of his own journey into the family firm, how he has achieved sustainable growth whilst building on traditional family values and how establishing new initiative’s has ensured the long term prosperity of the business.

Founder, Sue Howorth said, “This is destined to be a special event. It’s very rare to come across family businesses of this age that have transitioned through so many generations.  We looking forward to hearing about how the John W. Laycock has stood the test of time and how the Sugden family have successfully navigated the range of challenges that many family businesses face”.
