Top legal firm wins prestigious business award

A UK200 law firm is celebrating success after scooping a top accolade at a prestigious business awards ceremony.
Cartmell Shepherd beat off stiff competition from their fellow finalists, Armstrong Watson and Prima Uno, to be crowned winners in the Best Professional Services Company category at the in-Cumbria Business Awards.
They were presented with their award by Des Moore, CEO of the Cumberland Building Society who were the category sponsors and interviewed on stage by host Jeremy Vine who had reflected on the strength and depth of Cumbria’s businesses.

Peter Stafford, managing director of Cartmell Shepherd, said: “We were up against two very well established and managed businesses, so we were pleased just to have made the shortlist.

“When we were announced as winners, we were delighted and shocked in equal measure. The award is a huge boost for the team and recognises the dedication each and every one of them shows in delivering the very best levels of service to our clients.
“As a business, we strive to be at the forefront of positive change, do everything we can to look after and empower our team, and we thoroughly enjoy working for and with our clients across Cumbria, Northumberland and beyond.  Winning awards is by no means the be all and end all of business, however we were particularly delighted to win this accolade, as it is among the most coveted by the county’s business community.  It recognises a business which can demonstrate an outstanding level of professional services delivery to its clients, and my thanks goes to our dedicated team of solicitors and support staff.”
The in-Cumbria Business Awards, held in association with Sellafield Limited, saw around 250 business leaders gather to pick up the top honours after hundreds of Cumbrian firms entered across 15 categories.  Luke Dicicco, group business editor for Newsquest Cumbria and editor of in-Cumbria, said: “The in-Cumbria Business Awards are a true celebration of the county’s business prowess and based on the extremely high quality of this year’s winners, we have a huge amount to shout about. “It was fantastic to see all sectors and all four corners of the county recognised this year with businesses raising the bar to extremely high levels. There really was very little in it across all the categories, and all finalists can be rightly proud of their achievements because deciding the winners was tough.”
The award capped off what has been a great year for Cartmell Shepherd. Last month it was named across 11 areas of law in industry bible, the Legal500 and in October it was the only Cumbrian firm to be named in the Lex100 for the fifth year running.
