THE VENTO BANDS FOR AWARDS FOR INJURY TO FEELINGS IN THE EMPLOYMENT TRIBUNALS ARE TO INCREASE.

Vento Guidelines
In order to decide how much compensation should be awarded for injury to feelings the Employment Tribunals use guidelines set down in the case of Vento v Chief Constable of West Yorkshire Police (No.2) [2003] IRLR 102. There are three bands of potential awards depending on the seriousness of the case.

Changes commencing 6th April 2018
From time to time the bands are updated and, following Presidential Guidance issued on 23 March 2018, the Vento bands in respect of claims presented on or after 6 April 2018 in England and Wales are set to increase.

The lower band (which applies to the less serious cases) is going up to £900 – £8,600.

The middle band (which applies to those cases which do not merit an award in the upper band) is going up to £8,600 – £25,700

The upper band (which applies to the most serious cases) is going up to £25,700 – £42,900.

Awards for exceptional cases may exceed £42,900.
